Wisconsin Badgers wrestling announces 2016-17 schedule

Some new tournaments and more than a few familiar foes await the Wisconsin wrestling team next season as the team released its 2016-17 schedule on Monday.

Wisconsin’s slate includes a trio of tournaments and 12 duals. Seven of UW’s 12 dual opponents finished last season in the InterMat top-25.

The Badgers open the new campaign Nov. 12 as they take part in the Journeymen Classic in New York for the first time ever.

UW begins its dual slate with a trip Durham, NC, to face Duke on Nov. 18. Wisconsin will take part in the Wolfpack Open in nearby Raleigh just two days later.

December begins with a trip to the Cliff Keen Invitational in Las Vegas Dec.2-3, followed by the first Big Ten Conference dual of the season at Indiana on Dec. 9.

Wisconsin’s home opener comes on Dec. 11 when Northern Iowa will visit the UW Field House.

UW closes the tournament portion of its season with a ninth straight trip to the Midlands Championships at Northwestern University Dec. 29-30.

The first home conference dual is slated for Jan.6 when Ohio State comes to Madison.

Other highlights include a home dual against reigning national champions Penn State on Jan.27 as well as a three consecutive home matches against Michigan, Michigan State and Central Michigan to end the regular season.

The Badgers finished last season with an overall mark of 4-8 including a 3-6 record in the Big Ten.
