Wisconsin has nearly closed out its 2015 football recruiting class after a great June run of commitments, but there was one glaring hole left to fill. On Sunday night the Badgers got that hole filled, getting a verbal pledge from 3-star running back Davon Crookshank out of Missouri City, Texas (Fort Bend Marshall).
Crookshank became the fourth player to commit to the Badgers, and did so without visiting the Madison campus. However, it is a visit that Crookshank is putting together for the upcoming season.
The 5’10”, 195-pound running back was named to the All-District team last season for Fort Bend Marshall and many see him as one of the top running backs in the Houston area.
Wisconsin clearly wanted Crookshank in the fold, putting the full court press of Bill Busch, Chris Beatty and Thomas Brown on him during the recruiting process. It’s a process that won’t end just because of his verbal pledge, but UW should be able to lock in the commitment very solidly once he gets on campus.
Crookshank brings the versatility UW needs in the backfield. One look at his tape shows a player with the ability to pound the ball inside, but also make players miss in the open field. He also is a clear pass-catcher out of the backfield, something that UW needs.
UW stays at No. 25 in the 247Sports national rankings and the No. 4 class in the Big Ten. Wisconsin could add a second running back in this class, trying to get their depth up at the position heading in to 2015 and to help buffer against the likely loss of star Melvin Gordon after this season.
