It took awhile and a lot of swings and misses on the 2016 recruiting trail, but the Wisconsin Badgers finally found their tight end for the 2016 class. On Friday, tight end Jake Hescock made a verbal pledge to the Badgers.

His commitment came on the heels of a visit to Madison earlier in the week. Following that visit Hescock wasn’t shy about naming the Badgers his leader, and after a small cooling off period he made the choice for the Cardinal and White.
The 6-7, 235-pound prospect out of Salisbury (Conn.) School comes to the Badgers out of a state UW has actually been hitting hard this recruiting cycle. He also comes in as a raw and moldable product with the size to be something intriguing down the road.
It was something he noted in talking to our recruiting partners at Badger247 on Friday.
“Wisconsin felt like home,” Hescock told Badger247 Friday morning. “Meeting with all the coaches, I could tell they were knowledgeable and I would build a relationship during my time there.’
Hescock is the No. 28 tight end in the 2016 class, and is rated as the No. 665 player in the country and No. 5 player in Connecticut by 247Sports. The 247Sports composite rankings have him as the No. 41 tight end in the country right now and the No. 4 player in Connecticut.
UW beat out finalists Pittsburgh and Wake Forest for his commitment, but he had other offers from UConn, Temple, Old Dominion and UMass.
With his commitment, the Badgers now have 13 verbal pledges for the 2016 class. It is also the eighth verbal commitment UW has picked up in the month of June alone.
The commit moved Wisconsin back up one spot to No. 26 in the national rankings and No. 6 in the Big Ten according to 247Sports.
After a big run on defensive players earlier in the month, Hescock becomes one of the few offensive skill players to commit in this class. He joins running back Antonio Williams and quarterback Kare Lyles as the only non-defensive and non-offensive line players in the class so far.
Could it be a sign of things to come? With transfer wide receiver Jamil Kamara (a huge 2014 recruiting loss for the Badgers) on campus as we speak it could signal a nice run at the skill positions for UW’s offense.
