The Wisconsin wrestling team dropped its second dual meet in as many days as the Badgers fell to No.1 Penn State by a count of 36-7 on Sunday.
The host Nittany Lions (5-0, 1-0 Big Ten) looked every bit like the top team in the land, winning seven of the nine contested matches. Penn State put a ranked wrestler on the mat in seven of 10 weight classes.
Isaac Jordan (165) was one of the lone bright sports for UW. He pushed his perfect record to 13-0 with a 5-4 win over Geno Morelli. Jordan, the No.2 wrestler in the nation at his weight according to FloWrestling, scored a take down just before the final buzzer to sneak away with the narrow victory.
Wisconsin’s only other win came courtesy of redshirt senior heavyweight Brock Horwath who topped Devon Van Cura by major decision, 10-0.
The other major story line for the Badgers (1-2, 0-1) was the absence of Ryan Taylor at 133 pounds. Taylor, who had missed the early portion of the season due to injury, lost his season debut in UW’s dual at Pitt on Saturday. However, Wisconsin gave up a forfeit at 133 on Sunday. Information on Taylor’s status was not immediately available.
The Badgers are off until Dec. 29 when they travel to Evanston, Ill. for the Midlands Championships.
