With the 23rd Pick The Vikings select… Josh Doctson

It’s that time of year again when all the free agents are signing on the dotted line and teams start to look forward to the NFL Draft. And the Minnesota Vikings are no different. Since they have already stayed close to home by resigning most of their free agents, and bringing in some new faces, they must start to plan for the their next move.

One area that the Vikings didn’t touch in free agency is the wide receiver position. A position that seemed to be one of the weakest on the team entering last season, and who is hurt by the loss of Mike Wallace. Surely, wide receiver will be on the minds of the GM and Coach come draft night.

And the one name, in particular, that has come up time and time again is TCU’s WR Josh Doctson.

Doctson is tall and long (6’2”, 202 lbs) that would give the Vikings a bigger wide-out with steady hands and a big catch radius. That would also help them with one of QB Teddy Bridgewater’s struggles last season, his deep accuracy aim. If the Vikings can get a receiver who can manage to make plays with throws that aren’t on target all the time it would help them tremendously.

Doctson is a top choice for his leaping ability and balance in the air and he is pretty accurate when he is in one on one situation’s. Josh put up a 41 inch vertical jump at the combine, the highest in the WR group.

He is also praised for how he uses his hands to get separation, nice route running ability, and his good speed. He ran a 4.50 for the 40 yard dash at the combine, ranking him in the top 10 wide outs. What was even more surprising is that he was 3rd in the 20 and 60 yard dashes for wide receivers.

Having him on the field with Stefon Diggs and AP in the backfield has the potential to make this offense more explosive than last year. The only question is… what will the learning curve be. I think Diggs proved that a rookie can come in and have a solid first year.
