With his visit to the Minnesota Vikings on the horizon Ole Miss wide receiver Laquon Treadwell is our focus this week. While we doubt that he will be available at pick 23, we can take a look at how Treadwell could possibly fit into the Vikings wide receiver puzzle.
Treadwell who stands at 6’2”, 221 lbs, was sidelined his sophomore year with a broken fibula but returned with a vengeance last fall and was named first team All-SEC and had 1,153 yards and 11 touchdowns.
While his numbers and amazing comeback are impressive, his numbers at the NFL pro day were slacking a bit. He ran the 40 yard dash in 4.63 and 4.65 seconds. Which is faster than anything a normal human could pretend to do, but when you’re a WR in the NFL, it’s seen as subpar.
But Treadwell is a no nonsense football player. That alone can make up for his “lack of speed down the field.” He also has great body placement, solid hands, and a great stiff arm. That type of physicality from a wide receiver could be the missing piece for the Vikings. Stefon Diggs has the speed that can get him down the field and shake defenders, but Treadwell has the physical strength to punish anyone that comes at him.
The likelihood that he is still around at 23 is slim to none. But his 40 yard dash time at the pro day could scare potential teams away. We all remember Teddy Bridgewater was a top 10 pick but his pro day performance scared teams away and he fell to 32nd. Could the lighting strike twice for the Vikings and could the land that diamond in the rough?
