With upcoming game vs Bobcats, Nets presented with golden opportunity to right a leaking ship

Hump has scored just seven points in his last six games. Maybe a trade to Charlotte would have been better for him after all

To say that the Nets are struggling right now would be a generous compliment, one that coach P.J. Carlesimo would take and run with if it were an accurate statement. In fact, the Nets are falling apart at the moment. No, not like New York Jets' or Lakers' "falling apart", but rather a much more minute microcosm of those infamous, recent team collapses. The Nets aren't getting into fights with each other, openly calling each other out in the media, or faking injuries. They're just plain stinking up the joint on a constant basis. 

Outside of that one win against the Hornets a week ago down in Louisiana, Brooklyn hasn't won since February 20th vs the Bucks. Since then, they have been embarrassed by Carlos Delfino (and James Harden and the rest of the Rockets), completely shut-down by the Grizzlies, basically blown-out by the below-.500 Dallas Mavericks, and blew a 1st-quarter lead vs a massively shorthanded Chicago Bulls team. Add those brutal losses to the fact that the Nets have been at near-full-strength (outside of Joe Johnson missing a few of the earlier games due to an ankle problem) for almost this entire stretch of futility.

Also, after that February win vs the Bucks, the Nets were riding right on the tails of the Knicks for the Atlantic Division crown and possible (yet highly unlikely) home-court advantage throughout the playoffs (other than the Conference Finals, if the Heat were to make it through until then). Since then, though, Manhattan and Brooklyn have been going in completely different directions, with the Knicks going 4-2 in that time-span and the Nets going 1-4. Due to that stretch of play, the Nets currently sit 3.5 games behind the Knicks for the East's 3rd-seed. Not an insurmountable deficit to make up, but with the way this team has been playing recently, it certainly doesn't seem totally feasible. 

However, the Nets might be getting a respite from their struggles tomorrow night in Charlotte against the brutally-bad Bobcats (13-47) that is riding a seven-game losing streak at the moment and has only won four games since January 6th. Not a typo.

Charlotte is exactly the kind of team the Nets need to play against right now, especially with how lost they have looked on the court in recent games. What should be a nice and easy triumph could potentially give this Brooklyn squad the jolt of confidence needed to help it down the regular season stretch. With a lighter (in terms of competition level) point of their schedule coming up, the Nets must take advantage of games against teams like the Bobcats, Wizards, and Pistons in order to pad their record for playoff seeding. 

Maybe all this team needs to kick it back into gear is just something positive, like a win over the lowly/hapless/awful/terrible Bobcats. A simpler solution is always better than a complex one.
