Wolves 88, Wizards 102

Craig Smith scored a career-high 36 points but it
wasn’t enough. The Wolves didn’t play with the emotion and hustle they
displayed Saturday night in a 100-93 victory over Phoenix.
Wolves coach Randy Wittman said he was disappointed
in his team’s sluggish play early and the apparent lack of desire to
rebound. That type of effort won’t cut it for a 3-16 team, he said.
Wittman said his players have to be better focused mentally to get a
winning streak going.

Outrebounded by a 57-35 margin, which included surrendering 20
offensive boards, the Wolves started each half lethargically, falling
behind by eight points before the game was 8 minutes old and permitting
the first 10 points of the second half while falling behind by 20.
However, the Wizards did a solid job of containing center Al Jefferson, who was fresh off a 32-point, 20-rebound effort in Minnesota’s shocking win over Phoenix on Saturday night, and held the Timberwolves to 40.7 percent shooting.
