Wolves 89, Magic 100

Wolves record: 4-13

Howard had 23 points and 14 rebounds, and Lewis also scored 23 points to lead the Magic to a 100-89 victory over the Minnesota Timberwolves on Wednesday night.

Turkoglu added 22 for the Magic, who have won two of three despite missing their top three guards with injuries.

Al Jefferson had 19 to lead the Timberwolves…

Minnesota, predictably, attacked the Magic backcourt, which is missing two starters and its top reserve. The Wolves started the 6-foot-10 Jefferson at center and replaced normal center Jason Collins, who had started the last eight games, with guard Kevin Ollie.

Timberwolves veteran Mike Miller’s ankle buckled badly and he collapsed into a heap early in the third quarter Wednesday, but with help he rose and later played on, however briefly…

Miller said he won’t know the extent of his injury until he awakes this morning and sees how swollen or stiff his ankle is and until the team gets the hospital test results. Wittman said he sat him down for the night with 47 seconds left in the third quarter even though Miller wanted to play on.

It was all downhill from there for the Wolves, as the Magic (14-5) sprinted to a 70-50 lead after three quarters and never let the visitors get closer than the final margin.
Coach Randy Wittman sat Miller at the end of the third quarter because he didn’t like the way he was running.
Miller, who returned after some X-rays and a tape job, said he came down on someone’s foot and feared the worst initially.
“At first, I felt it was really serious,” he said. “Right now, we found out it’s hopefully just a sprain. We’ll do an MRI tomorrow and figure out more. We know it’s not broken, which is key for me.”
2 Double-doubles in the past three games for Wolves rookie Kevin Love, who had 16 points and 12 rebounds in 27 minutes.
