Wolves 93, Spurs 99

Wolves record: 4-23
Wolves losing streak: 13

Their losing streak reached 13 games — three away from a club record — with Tuesday’s 99-93 defeat at San Antonio, where the Spurs built in the game’s first eight minutes a 13-point lead from which the Wolves never quite recovered.
The team fired coach Randy Wittman five games into this streak and replaced him with demoted Kevin McHale. None of the tumult or new direction has prevented the Wolves from a 4-23 record, exactly the same as a season ago when they won 22 games.
If the Wolves’ streak continues Friday at New York and Saturday at home against Orlando — a very real possibility — they coincidentally would be set to tie the franchise record for consecutive losses on Monday against Memphis, with whom they orchestrated a midnight trade on draft night that sent the rights to O.J. Mayo away for Kevin Love and Miller in a stunning eight-player deal.
The Timberwolves (4-23) were within four points with less than two minutes to go. For the third time in as many meetings this season, Parker finished them off.

Al Jefferson led the Timberwolves with 28 points. Randy Foye added 26 points and 16 rebounds.

Mike Miller sat out because of a left ankle sprain. He thinks he may miss only a couple of games with an injury that sidelined him four games earlier this season.

Kevin Ollie made his fourth start of the season in place of Miller. He played point guard and Foye moved to shooting guard.

Foye also pulled down 16 rebounds to set a career high and break the team record of 15 for a guard set by Isaiah Rider in 1996.

“I want to apologize to Al Jefferson and Craig Smith for coming in there and stealing all their rebounds,” Foye said, with tongue in cheek. “A lot of those rebounds were in Al and Craig’s hands, but I came in there and snatched them out, so I just want to apologize to them.”

Smith just grunted when asked if he accepted, but Jefferson admittedly was impressed.
