Wolves in Houston for player workouts

Mike Trudell/Timberwolves site talks to Wolves GM Jim Stack:
MT: You and the Wolves’ basketball operations staff are watching and evaluating several prospects in Houston. How are things?
Wolves GM Jim Stack: We’re looking at a lot of kids during this process
here in Houston. We just got finished with a group, and we have another
group coming in. We’re psychologically testing kids, and we’ve done a
lot of background homework on most of the guys, so we’re trying to put
the whole picture together. We’re kind of in the information gathering
state: talking to some teams, looking to see what they are trying to
do. June16th will be a big date because then you’ll know who is in for
sure and who isn’t. Once we get to that point, then we can kind of zero
in.

Just ran into Stan Love at the Lakers game and got a quick update on
Kevin. Stan said that Kevin is in New York for a workout with the
Knicks tommorrow and will workout for Minnesota sometime next week.

This time, the Wolves likely will select either
Mayo, a guard out of Southern California, Brook Lopez, a center out of
Stanford, or Danilo Gallinari, a small forward from Italy. That’s
assuming Derrick Rose and Michael Beasley go first and second overall.

Something good can be said about all three potential
picks. But, really, if Mayo is available, he should be the guy. Clearly
he has more talent and can make more of an impact than any of the
others.

Jon Wefald, who moved from the position of chancellor of the
Minnesota State University system to become president at Kansas State,
is retiring as president in June 2009 and will remain on the school
staff as a professor…

He recently called to sing the praises of former Wildcats
basketball standout Michael Beasley, and wanted to encourage the
Timberwolves to find a way to draft this outstanding basketball player
in the upcoming NBA draft on June 26.
