Game previews:
Jonah Ballow/Timberwolves site has audio from Thursday’s practice of Kevin McHale and Sebastian Telfair talking about tonight’s game.
One of the longest months in Timberwolves history ended with a record collapse, but with the new year comes new hope.
The Wolves ended a 2-14 December by blowing a 29-point lead in Tuesday night’s 107-100 loss at Dallas, but forward Ryan Gomes said he and his teammates are looking to make a fresh start in 2009.
“We’ve got to look back at those things and come into this new year and try to erase all that stuff,” Gomes said after Thursday’s practice. “It is on our record, we know what happened in the past, but we’ve got to look forward to the future and the present, which is (tonight) against Golden State.”
Instead, they now must find a way after that epic 107-100 loss to prevent a hangover that could last well beyond New Year’s Day.
“You have to understand it’s a long season,” Wolves veteran guard Mike Miller said Thursday as his team prepared for tonight’s game against Golden State at Target Center.
Mike Miller practiced almost fully on Thursday when the Wolves returned to practice after Tuesday’s epic loss at Dallas and is expected to play Friday against Golden State at Target Center.
Had they been born with perfect hearts that matched their sport’s demands, Ronny Turiaf and Fred Hoiberg may never have known each other as more than NBA players.
But when they meet again tonight, 3 1/2 years after both underwent open-heart surgery, there will be more than friendship and understanding between the Warriors’ big man and the Timberwolves’ executive.
“There’s pride,” Turiaf said.
“You do form a special bond with people that have been through this,” Hoiberg added.
