Wolves Updates 10/18

From Jerry Zgoda’s twitter account:
Big Al played fewer than 21 minutes tonite (none in 4th qtr) because of Achilles tendinitis. Oh-oh…

Rambis said Jefferson’s Achilles tendon was too sore by the third quarter’s end for him to continue.

When asked how serious it might be, Rambis said, “I don’t know. We’re off tomorrow, he’ll get some treatment on it. It’s an irritation. Hopefully, it will calm down. … Today was the first I heard of it.”

• Love is expected to see the team’s hand specialist Monday to find out if his fractured hand will require surgery. The team tried to get him examined Saturday. Love stayed in the locker room throughout the game.

But Jefferson’s season-killing ACL tear last year wasn’t optimal. Nor were injuries to previous Wolves lottery picks Randy Foye, Rashad McCants and Corey Brewer. (All three were injured pretty seriously in their second season with the Wolves. Transport Jonny Flynn in bubble wrap next year, please.)

“We’re going to try to get our players as many minutes as possible,” Rambis said while mentioning that he plans to give Jefferson and Brewer enough minutes to prepare for the regular season.

Kahn said the team is likely to march on with other players in expanded roles rather than looking to add another big player to the roster before opening night Oct. 28.

“You try to avoid injuries,” Kahn said, “but the fact of the matter is there’s nothing we can do about it other than try to make certain some of the young bigs on our team use this as an opportunity to step up.”

The broken wrist that the Timberwolves’ Kevin Love suffered against Chicago means his uncle, Mike Love, lead singer for the Beach Boys, won’t be attending the Wolves’ Target Center opener, as was planned…

The Timberwolves have shot just 23 percent from three-point range in their first four exhibition games while opponents are averaging 39.3 percent.
