Wittman’s broader point is that there aren’t really five positions in
the NBA these days. As Wittman puts it, aside from point guards,
"You’ve got wing guys and power guys." Smith, of course, is a power
guy. And the idea that he should play further from the basket with
Ratliff on the floor is evidently not one endorsed by Wittman.
