Game previews:
“It’s still early, but we should be over .500 right now,” Jefferson said. “I don’t know if we’re just being cursed by the basketball gods or something — I don’t know what it is. But we have to get it together. We put ourselves in great position to win that last game. It should have never gone into overtime.”
-That was Beach Boys lead singer Mike Love and his nephew Kevin of the Timberwolves power shopping at Mall of America the other day.
-Former Timberwolves first-round draft pick Gerald Glass, 41, is back at his alma mater Mississippi completing his undergraduate degree while working as a scholarship student manager for the basketball team, clarionledger.com reports.
-It wouldn’t be surprising if Flip Saunders ends up back with the Timberwolves down the road.
-Al Jefferson’s Timberwolves jersey used to be the team’s best seller, but this season Mike Miller and Kevin Love jerseys have made it a three-way race.
Jerry Zgoda/Star Tribune on Tuesday’s game at Golden State:
Love didn’t play after finishing the third quarter. Miller played less than two minutes in the fourth quarter, primarily a 98-second stretch when McCants was pulled temporarily after firing a quick three-pointer that missed with three-plus minutes remaining.
Wittman says he continues to search for the proper pieces that will make this team go, but know this: The Wolves committed themselves to both players when they made that midnight trade on draft night that sent away the rights to O.J. Mayo, who by the way is the very early leader in the clubhouse for Rookie of the Year…
The Wolves are 0-2 in back-to-back games this season, following a 95-85 home loss to Dallas with an 88-85 defeat at Oklahoma City and a 121-109 stinker at Sacramento with a much better effort in a 97-93 setback at Portland.
Rookie forward Kevin Love hasn’t fared well in the second half of those back-to-backs, scoring four and two points, respectively, but he said fatigue isn’t a problem.
“I’m fine,” he said. “I played a lot of minutes (at Portland). I just came out and missed some shots. As far as my body holding up, I’m better than I’ve ever been.”
