Britt Robson/On The Ball on Friday’s loss in Denver:
Okay, that’s about enough patience, enough leeway for a basketball team
that is playing with stupidity as well as incompetence, and showing
very little character in the process. During the off-season, Kevin
McHale remarked that any team that really plays hard and within
themselves can win nearly forty games a season just by picking up a
dozen or more victories left lying around by opponents that for one
reason or another don’t bother to show up. Well, Denver didn’t show up
tonight…

This season, I sit two rows behind where I was for a majority of last
year. I actually like it better, as I’m able to see into the huddles
during timeouts. It has been through this view, I’ve noticed how this
team doesn’t respond to anything Wittman says. At this point, the young
Timberwolves are listening more to veteran Antoine Walker than they are
to their head coach.

After a 1-9 start entering Saturday’s game, things now get tough for
the Timberwolves: After Saturday, they play six of their next nine and
13 of their next 19 on the road. Included are consecutive games next
week at New Orleans, Dallas and a Friday home game against defending
NBA champion New Orleans.

Timberwolves coach Randy Wittman found something
positive when he looked at the film of Rashad McCants’ rough shooting
performance Friday night at Denver.

"He got 15 good shots," Wittman said Saturday before
the Wolves played Atlanta. "If I can get him 15 of those shots tonight,
I’ll take them again."

The problem was McCants made only one of those 15
shots during a 99-93 loss at Denver. But Wittman wasn’t discouraged,
and he doesn’t want his third-year guard to lose confidence.

Boston’s 9-1 start eased the sting for center Kendrick Perkins, who
lost best buddy Al Jefferson in the summertime trade that sent Kevin
Garnett from the Timberwolves to Celtics.

"It wasn’t so much shocking," he said. "It was a hurt thing. But then
again, we’ve gotta keep it moving. It’s an honor to play with Kevin
Garnett."

The Star Tribune named Al Jefferson its star of the week.
