Wolves Updates 11/26

The difference between the Nets and the Timberwolves is that Damien Wilkins bank shot.

The Nets visited Minneapolis on opening night. The game ended with Wilkins’ circus putback, a final stitch in a fourth quarter comeback that ultimately pushed New Jersey into a sea of embarrassment. You see, since that game, neither the Nets or the Wolves have won a game.

#3 Jonny Flynn, Minnesota Timberwolves
In his perfect world Flynn would be doing what Jennings is doing in Milwaukee: running up and down the court, scoring off pick-and-rolls and being the playmaker he was at Syracuse. On draft night, that was Milwaukee’s dream, too, as the Bucks were set on drafting Flynn before Minnesota surprised everyone and took the former Orangemen after drafting Ricky Rubio. And while that has been good news for the Bucks and Jennings, who has thrived in Scott Skiles’ offense, Flynn has found himself handcuffed by his system.

The Wolves drafted three point guards in the first round last July but kept only two. Denver couldn’t be happier about Minnesota’s decision.

Ty Lawson, taken with the 18th pick and then shipped to the Nuggets for a future first-round pick, is averaging 9.4 points and 3.2 assists as a rookie backup to former Wolves guard Chauncey Billups. And his playing time (21.6 minutes) even surprises the guy who hands out those minutes.

“We never expected this from a rookie,” Nuggets coach George Karl said

Looks like the Timberwolves drafted the wrong European player. Ricky Rubio, whom the Wolves drafted with the fifth pick in the first round, is averaging 6.5 points per game for Regal FC Barcelona in Spain. Meanwhile Brandon Jennings, who played in Italy last year and was drafted 10th in the first round by Milwaukee, became the youngest NBA player to score 50 points in a game when he scored 55 against Golden State on Nov. 14 at age 20.
Timberwolves top draft pick Ricky Rubio and his undefeated Regal FC Barcelona team play undefeated Montepaschi Siena on Saturday afternoon on NBA TV. Rubio has had at least one steal in each of his past 14 Euroleague appearances and has made all of his 14 free throws.
