Wolves Updates 1/29

Randy Foye (kneecap) practiced more than 45 minutes full court with his
teammates Monday and said he expects to play in a game within the next
week.
“He looked really good today,” Wittman said. “It’s getting pretty
close.”
Wittman said center Theo Ratliff (knee) might return to
practice next week.
Richard, a second-round pick out of Florida, has not played in a game
since he got two minutes on Jan. 18 at Phoenix. He has not played the
previous five games, and coach Randy Wittman said he thought Richard
would benefit more by getting some playing time with the SkyForce in
the D-League.
“He’s going to get to play, I think, six games in a little less than
two weeks and then we’ll bring him back up here,” Wittman said. “But he
needs to play. He’s not getting the opportunity and I didn’t foresee a
lot of games coming up.”
The opportunity in front of Richard is great and certainly he will
seize it. Richard has a good head on his shoulders and Babcock reminded
the rookie this should not be considered a “demotion,” but the chance
to play the game he loves and develop his game.

“That’s why I always say you can’t judge a book by the front page,”
second-year guard Randy Foye said. “If you look at him, you look at his
history, his past, people might say, ‘Oh, Antoine Walker, he’s not a
leader. He’s not going to be able to lead these young guys.’
“But if you’re not with him every day, if you don’t hear him explaining
things, if you don’t hear him in the huddle, if you don’t see the spark
he brings, you can’t say anything.”
Said Timberwolves Vice President Kevin McHale: “Even though the
circumstance isn’t great here now, he’s doing everything he can to make
it better. He’s doing absolutely nothing to make it worse.”
Along with Ryan Gomes, Timberwolves assistant and former Gordon Tech coach Bob Ociepka donated a defibrillator to Gordon Tech in memory of player George “Truck” Robinson, who died in 1983. Ociepka coached him in high school.

Rudy Gay should be interesting though, he’s mid-sized. He should have
something in the tank. But him over Gerald Green? Doubt it. I take
Gerald. Dunk contests aren’t about how high you get, it’s about how you
move and how you make that dunk look.

In 39 games, McCants, a 6-4 shooting guard, is averaging 27.9 minutes
per game for Minnesota, which has a league-worst 8-35 record. Like
Martin, he’s had a good month shooting the ball, making 48.6 percent of
his field-goal attempts to improve his season average to 44.3 percent.
