Wolves Updates 2/9

The Wolves have just five players on their roster
who were with the team last season, but McHale said he’s not ruling out
making another move before the Feb. 21 trade deadline if a deal makes
sense.

"It depends on who you’re talking about and what
players are available," McHale said. "Am I out here saying that we need
to make a bunch of changes? No. Are we starting to get a nice little
core group of young guys you can move forward with? Yes. Is that
solidified completely yet? No. Are we still always looking for stuff?
Absolutely.

"We’re talking to a lot of teams. Will anything come
of it? I don’t know. I don’t think that right now we’re saying we have
two or three guys we’ve just got to move."

Minnesota’s Gerald Green has been busy getting ready to defend his title in next Saturday’s All-Star weekend dunk contest in New Orleans.

Leaning on dramatic effect, the former Celtic has been working on a jam
in which he takes a handoff from teammate Rashad McCants, who is
sitting atop a ladder, before sending the ball through.

Some of the other dunks he’s considered are even crazier.

Adriana Lima, star of the new Victoria’s Secret commercial that debuted
on the Super Bowl, is dating Marko Jaric, a guard for the NBA Minnesota
Timberwolves.

The day before her ad premiered last weekend, "Marko chartered a plane
to be with her on her big day," says a source. "He flew in Saturday and
flew back early Sunday morning so he could be on time for practice."

As Lima tells PEOPLE: "I’m happy."

As he prepared to meet the Timberwolves last night, Paul Pierce considered Al Jefferson’s place among the best pure low-post scorers in the NBA.

“You could make a good argument for Al,” Pierce said before the Celts’
88-86 win. “I think right now I give (Tim) Duncan the nod because he’s
been doing it for so long, but that’s not bad company for the young
fella. I’m watching him, and you really can’t guard Al Jefferson
one-on-one in the post.”

But the man knows how to play in the paint. He was as good as the NBA
ever had in that spot, and Jefferson seems to be on that track, whether
he’ll get there or not.

"He’s better than I thought he was, and I thought he was pretty good,"
McHale said. "He’s got the ability to score in low post and rebound,
but also his ability to control the game down there. It’s so unique
now. It’s just so different. You just don’t see it now. So it’s nice to
watch. I enjoy it."

Well, you don’t see this every day: One of the lead stories on NBA.com features photos of a Celtic and a Timberwolf with this wording: Tune in to ESPN at 8 p.m. ET to see Ray Allen and the Celtics visit Gerald Green and the Timberwolves for the first time since Kevin Garnett was dealt to Boston.

A sports staffer for a major metropolitan newspaper heard about that and asked, "Who’s Gerald Green?" The NBA is promoting its upcoming All-Star Game weekend, where Green will be the only Wolves representative. He will defend his title in the slam-dunk contest.

Johnny Kundla, now 91 and the coach when the Lakers were winning NBA
championships in Minneapolis, was watching the game at home. A reporter
called to ask for his view of Garnett.

"I was surprised that the crowd was that loud for him," he said.
"There’s no question about his ability, but there were times when I
didn’t think he was much of a teammate."
