Wolves Updates 3/12

Wolves point guard Sebastian Telfair has a sprained ankle and nothing more, according to results of a magnetic resonance imaging exam taken today, coach Randy Wittman said. It was good news for the team, though Wittman said he doesn’t know when Telfair will return.

Foye after Tuesday’s morning shootaround on the player against whom he will compared perhaps forever:

“It’s funny, you know: Roy, Foye. He’s a good player. We’re both in
great situations. Obviously, I got hurt earlier this year and he’s
having a great season, played in his first All-Star Game. It’s just
important that, even though we swapped teams, people try not to link us
together because I’m here in Minnesota and he’s there in Portland.

Dave Campbell/AP Sports on Mark Madsen:
He got the dreaded DNP-CD – boxscore speak for "Did Not Play-Coach’s Decision" – 24 times. He was on the inactive list for 23 games, the first eight of those while recovering from August shoulder surgery.

"To be honest, it’s hard," Madsen said. "I think every NBA player wants to be out there preparing to play 48 minutes, and that’s the way I am. And so quite frankly, I’m not happy. I’m not happy I’m not playing. But it’s a situation where coach Wittman has made his expectation clear to me individually, and he’s told me to be patient and to always be ready and to find a way to help the team in other ways.

Via Empty The Bench , an upcoming movie titled Ball Don’t Lie whose cast listing includes Al Jefferson playing himself.

David LaVaque/Star Tribune on the Totino-Grace high school basketball team:
Before the Fridley game, players and coaches also received an assist
from Sasha’s dad, Timberwolves Vice President of Basketball Operations
Kevin McHale.

"He basically told the girls that he thought they were a great team and
told us how proud he was," Hartinger said. "It was a real lift."

Just call Ryan Gomes "The Barometer."

The nickname requires explanation. Entering Tuesday,
the Timberwolves had won six of the previous seven games in which Gomes
scored at least 15 points.

Gomes isn’t going to create shots for himself most
nights. He usually scores when the team is moving the ball well. His
scoring production is a barometer of how well the team is passing and
playing effectively on offense.
