Wolves Updates 3/19

From Rick Alonzo/Pioneer Press:

Garnett said he didn’t want to play a limited role
and that he doesn’t prepare to play with anything less than 100 percent
effort for a full 82-game season. In what turned out to be his final
two games with the Wolves, Garnett played just 32 and 34 minutes, among
his lowest totals of the season.

"There’s no indication to me that that’s why he’s
shutting it down," Wittman said at the time. "He’s a guy that wants to
play, there’s no question about that."

Wittman met with Garnett late last season and
explained he wanted the team’s young players to play more and gain
experience. Later, Garnett said he and Wittman were on the same page —
although Garnett believed the younger players could learn more playing
alongside him.

Among the evening’s plethora of solid performances were those lodged by
Kirk Snyder and Marko Jaric, at both ends of the court. For Wolves’
fans this is of course a good thing, except that Snyder and Jaric got
plenty of burn at the expense of Corey Brewer and Randy Foye, the
coveted first-round draft picks for whom the Wolves’ tanked down the
stretch the past two years.

Other parts of the plan, Taylor said, are to do well in the draft and to act decisively in free agency.

"We’re not looking at big names, but still we have to be out there
looking,’ Taylor said. "Is there a young guy out there, or a
lower-priced guy who can help us, fit in with the team? We have to be
more proactive on it.

"But still, the most improvement we’ll have next year, no matter what
we do, will be these [players] who come back next year and be better
players than they were this year."

Taylor also endorsed the job Wittman has done this season. Still, the owner expects more next season.

Count Pierce among the frustrated. He often went out of his way to work with Green and to praise the youngster publicly.

“I tried to take him under my wing,” Pierce said. “I tried to work with
him. There were days when I’d come in and play some one-on-one with him
and show him some stuff that I do to get better. But you’ve got to have
the work ethic. You’ve got to want to do it…"
