Penn is the third candidate for the Wolves’ job to withdraw from consideration.
San Antonio Spurs assistant general manager Dennis Lindsey and former Miami Heat general manager Randy Pfund previously pulled out of the running.
Penn’s withdrawal leaves former Indiana Pacers GM David Kahn as the only known outside candidate.
Wolves assistant general manager Fred Hoiberg and GM Jim Stack are the internal candidates.
I’m still not buying it. I think it would be great for Penn to interview for the job and even better to be offered it. But with all the great things ahead in Portland, he’s going to be offered much better jobs than that one in the future. Turning this job down only increases the perception that he’s a hot guy on the rise.
I just don’t like the idea of working for that franchise. If it’s a matter of money for Penn, I would assume the Blazers would step up and do whatever it takes to keep him.
