Wolves Updates 5/28

New Wolves prez of basketball ops David Kahn and Kevin McHale are expected to meet again — next week at the earliest, Kahn said — after they discussed the team’s coaching job on Tuesday.

Kahn said by text message from Chicago — he flew there this morning for the NBA draft combine and to drum up trade discussions with other NBA execs — that it’s “early” in the process of determining whether McHale will return as coach next season or whether Kahn will begin a search for a new coach.

According to his twitter account, Kevin Love was rookie correspondent for NBA.com and T-Mobile for last night’s Game 5 in L.A. Check out his twitter feed for updates from the game, including his updates about sitting next to Bill Russell.
Over the last 20 years, New Britain boys basketball coach Stan Glowiak has gotten a good look at some of the state’s best basketball talent.

Now, Glowiak has helped organize a night that will include some of Connecticut’s best players, both past and present, for the public’s enjoyment, while at the same time helping out the New Britain program…

Tonight’s festivities, which will begin at 6 p.m. in New Britain High School’s Chick Shea Gymnasium, are headlined by an all-star matchup pitting Tebucky Jones’ “N.B. All-Stars” against Ryan Gomes’ “Waterbury Legends.”

A staunch presence in the post, Gomes was strong enough to keep bigger athletes out of the paint while also defending quicker shooting guards on the perimeter. Gomes proved to be a rock for the Wolves in the past two years and will continue to fill an important role on a team in search of a return to the postseason.

That basketball is a series of risk-reward decisions was never more evident than with Garnett. The spurs were not a major issue over the first 55 games, and even when he was injured against the Jazz, getting the inflamed area of the knee to calm down with treatment was seen as the best option.

Such questions were expected when the Celts traded for Garnett, then 31 with 12 NBA seasons on his resume.

“Oh, yeah, we knew what we were getting into, and it was worth the gamble,” Rivers said. “No question. He brought us one banner already, so clearly it was worth the gamble.”

It is worth noting that the main player traded for Garnett, Al Jefferson [stats], then 22, suffered a far worse injury this season (torn ACL).
