Wolves Updates 6/21 Part 2

Indiana guard Eric Gordon and Arizona guard Jerryd Bayless, two likely
lottery picks in the 2008 NBA Draft, will work out for the Wolves
Monday morning at Target Center.

Minnesota GM Jim Stack said Saturday afternoon that Monday’s workout of
the two highly-touted guards will likely conclude the Wolves’ pre-draft
workouts.
For six weeks, the team’s sizable front office has been going full tilt
in hopes of making the right decision with the third overall pick.
Taylor has tried to create a system that strives for consensus but at
the same time makes sure everyone is heard. And that’s a lot of
listening, when you consider that group includes a VP of basketball
operations (Kevin McHale), a GM (Jim Stack), two assistant GMs (Fred
Hoiberg and Rob Babcock), coaches and top scouts…
McHale — who still holds the ultimate authority on draft day —
downplays the difference in approach. He has always encouraged
discussion, he said. But he admits that more people are involved in the
process, there is more discussion and that Taylor is much more involved.
…it’s being said that the Timberwolves will re-sign Ryan Gomes…
If you live in the real world, you know that McHale, whatever his
faults, made the deal he thought was best at the time, knowing he could
neither afford to pay Garnett what he wanted nor let him walk away in
free agency.
And McHale got Al Jefferson, who is already a better scorer and
finisher and fourth-quarter player than Garnett ever was, regardless of
the championship Paul Pierce, Ray Allen and an underrated supporting
cast helped Garnett win.
Bill Ingram/Hoopsworld on next class of former players who become coaches:
A couple of guys who always seem to be in demand are Malik Rose and Mark Madsen. It’s not that they bring amazing things to the basketball court, though they are both hustle guys. It’s more that they bring intangibles off the court. They push their teammates, cheer them on, and set a great example with their work ethic. Players like that often find they can do the same thing from the bench . . .because that’s where they’ve been doing most of their in-game work anyway.
Marko Jaric gave the Victoria’s Secret model he has been dating NINE WHOLE MONTHS an engagement ring on her birthday, according to People.com. Congrats. Sounds like everlasting love. It’ll be good for Jaric to have someone on his bench who’ll tell him when he’s wearing his jersey backwards.
