David Thorpe/ESPN ranks Kevin Love #4 among this year’s rookies.
His game is special, but below the rim. He looked terrific in his first
summer league game — 18 points, 13 rebounds — and now has to learn
how to use his new body as an athlete. Soft layups can be turned into
dunks, which will translate into more free-throw attempts.
 
 
But the 6-foot-10-inch Love appears
to be a quick study. He found his groove in the second half and
finished with 18 points and 13 rebounds in the Timberwolves’ 88-74 loss
to the Dallas Mavericks at Cox Pavilion.
 
The Twin Cities can exhale. Their savior isn’t a stiff.
 
 
Despite some early foul trouble, Kevin Love posted an impressive 18 points and 13 rebounds in his summer league debut, putting in work against a Mavs front line that included a couple guys with legit NBA experience in James Singleton and Pape Sow. OK, so it’s not like K-Love was torching Yao Ming and Dikembe Mutombo, but it’s a start. Meanwhile, O.J. Mayo had a less-than-impressive 18 points (on 5-for-17 shooting) in a loss to San Antonio
