According to a source close to the situation, Rambis will have his second interview with the T-Wolves early next week.

As previously reported, Rambis is one of four known finalists in the search.

Minnesota Timberwolves general manager David Kahn returned from Spain Friday and said discussions with Ricky Rubio’s former team for the point guard’s release were “productive.” Kahn dismissed the rumor that Rubio was going to sign with Real Madrid. “I don’t think that is true,” Kahn said. … Kahn also said he’s conducting second interviews with a “small group” of coaching candidates. He declined to say if Portland assistant Monty Williams is among the group. Previously mentioned candidates include assistant coaches Elston Turner of Houston, Kurt Rambis of the Los Angeles Lakers and Terry Stotts of Dallas, and television analyst Mark Jackson.

7. Kevin Love, PF, Minnesota
Showcase stats: 4 points, 3 rebounds, 1 assist, 2-5 fg, 0-1 3pt

Though he didn’t do much on Saturday, Love opened some eyes with his performance in the two days of practice. He rebounded well on both ends, passed well, and shot well from mid-range. He’s young, but there will be a need for another big man next year, and he was the best big in camp.

The best advice I ever got was that no matter how famous you get or how much recognition you get, always remain humble. You see a lot of guys get money, and they change. People tell me to “be yourself, be down to earth, be willing to sign autographs. Don’t become one of those guys people despise.”

The worst advice: “Go out there and average 30 points at Syracuse so you could be the No. 1 pick in the draft.” That’s terrible advice.

If I could trade places for a day with anyone, it would be somebody like Bill Gates or Donald Trump, somebody with that much power and authority and that much money, to see what they go through in a day.

I want my epitaph to say, “Here lies Jonny Flynn, who was not just a good basketball player but a great person.” I want to be known as a good person who gave back to his community and always did the right things in life.

Timberwolves forward and Waterbury native Ryan Gomes scored 35 but Harte Nissan suffered its first loss, 105-101 to Mizner All-Stars.

Gomes, who played at Providence in 2001-05, plays at the Greater Hartford Pro-Am and the Nike Pro City League at Hunter College in New York. Gomes is the only NBA player to consistently play the GHPA.

“The Timberwolves don’t care what you do; they just want you to stay in shape,” Gomes said. “This is a great way to stay in shape, and the competition is really good. It’s a chance for me to play with all my guys from Waterbury again. I’m helping them get better, and they’re helping me get better.”
