Wolves Updates 8/1 Part 2

Lyndal Scranton/News-Herald on Blake Ahearn:
Ahearn appeared in 12 games last season as a rookie with the
injury-depleted Miami Heat, averaging 5.8 points. He’s waiting to find
out if the Minnesota Timberwolves make him a contract offer. He played
with Minnesota’s team in the Las Vegas Summer League.

The 6-foot-2 guard averaged 12.2 points in five games — second to the
Timberwolves’ first-round draft choice, Kevin Love. He shot 43.5
percent from the field. He made 7 of 20 3-pointers and all 14 of his
free throws.

"My agent (John Greig of Seattle) says Minnesota really likes me; they’re just not making a decision yet," Ahearn said.

Dick Weiss/NY Daily News on the Randy Foye Foundation:
The Randy Foye Foundation’s main goal is raising money to renovate and
rebuild 1st/3rd Street Park in Newark’s North Ward. It is right down
the street from where Foye grew up and was never a place that kids
could go to play. It’s overrun by a lot of bad influences, but Foye
wants to make it a place where kids can play and grow together in a
comfortable and safe atmosphere, while adding to the overall aesthetics
of the city and hopefully decreasing crime and violence in that area.

Newark Mayor Cory Booker is renovating 14 parks as part of a citywide
project – which means the foundation has to raise $750,000, which will
then be matched by city funds. Foye is hosting a gala – called, “A
Night for Newark” – at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center tomorrow
night that will be the first big fund raiser for this park.

Additionally, Foye has expressed vivid interest in working with the kids of Newark.

Also, SI.com is reporting that the Greek team, Olympiakos, which just
signed Atlanta’s Josh Childress to a three-year, $20 million deal, is
considering tossing, say, $40 million a year LeBron James’ way when he
becomes a free agent in 2010. The weak American dollar is making Europe
very attractive for American players.

“We historically went to Europe and raided their top players,” Kevin
McHale said after Childress signed with Olympiakos. “Now they’re
starting to come in here and go after some of ours. That’ll be
interesting.”
