Wolves Updates 8/3 Part 2

In an effort to add some height to their undersized front line, the Timberwolves today signed Dallas Mavericks center Ryan Hollins, a 7-foot-0 restricted free agent, to an offer sheet.

Terms of the offer were not released, but the Mavericks have seven days to match.

From Marca.com (link and translation via HoopsHype):
Ricky Rubio rejected Friday the offer made by Olympiacos, the best one of all he has received.
— Minnesota Timberwolves top draft pick Ricky Rubio’s father, Esteve, in last weekend’s El Periodico newspaper in Barcelona: “Ricky has made it clear he wants to go to the NBA, but if he can’t do that, and his current team (DKV Joventut) doesn’t want him anymore, he would not object to being traded to Regal Barca (another Barcelona team in Rubio’s hometown).”
Where Ricky Rubio will play basketball this season is still uncertain, but it probably won’t be for his current Spanish team.

DKV Joventut president Jordi Villacampa seemingly closed the door on that possibility over the weekend, when he released a statement to the media that read in part: “It is obvious that his career as a player in our club has ended.”

El Mundo Deportivo reported that the Rubio family was “surprised” by the statement and wants a solution “as quickly as possible.”

The newspaper speculated that could clear the way for Rubio to sign with Regal FC Barcelona, his hometown team, perhaps this week.

Don’t know about anyone else, but I find the irony of Rambis possibly replacing McHale more than humorous, given their battles as players in certain NBA Finals involving the Lakers and Celtics.

ESPN’s Jackson, a former point guard, is considered the favorite for the position, but I can’t help but recall that Kahn, in his sportswriter days, covered the Portland Trail Blazers when Rick Adelman was there. And Turner, a defensive specialist as a player, has been on Adelman’s staff the past 12 seasons, at Portland, Sacramento and now the Rockets.
