The three finalists for the Minnesota Timberwolves coaching vacancy have three distinctly different resumes.
Timberwolves president David Kahn is in the process of deciding between Lakers assistant Kurt Rambis, ESPN analyst Mark Jackson and Houston assistant Elston Turner.
Rambis is the most experienced of the bunch. He coached the Lakers in the lockout-shortened 1998-99 season and has filled in several times for Phil Jackson.

Rambis appears to be the safe and logical choice for a franchise in flux. Not only is Rambis well respected in the league, he’s coming from the defending champs, too. That could be a plus for a fan base that’s largely become disenfranchised since the passing of the Kevin Garnett glory years.
For those who aren’t “name” coaches, like Rambis, working for a name coach is often the next best thing. And there isn’t a bigger pooh-bah in the NBA than Mr. X, Phil Jackson. Not only was Rambis part of the Lakers’ dynasties of the 1980s as a player, but he’s been with the organization throughout for its four titles in the 2000s under Zen Master Jackson.
So when it comes to selling future success to the Minnesota masses, Rambis knows what it feels like to sip champagne inside the winner’s locker room in June. Jackson and Turner don’t.

Celtics assistant general manager Dave Wohl is being considered for an assistant coaching position with the Minnesota Timberwolves, an NBA source said today.
But Wohl, an assistant coach under Doc Rivers in Orlando and with the Celtics from 2004-07, has not yet left his Celtics position.
Wohl is expected to be named an assistant if the Timberwolves hire Kurt Rambis as head coach.
