Wolves workout local players on Friday

Recently graduated seniors Lawrence Mckenzie, Spencer
Tollackson and Dan Coleman worked out, led by Minnesota’s assistant
general manager Fred Hoiberg. Along with the Gophers were other local
players from Winona State and Minnesota State-Mankato as well. With the
workout lasting a little over an hour and a half, each Gopher exerted
their maximum efforts in hopes to continue their careers at the next
level…

…With head coach Tubby Smith sitting alongside Mchale, two of
the top basketball minds in the state of Minnesota looked on as former
members of the maroon and gold competed in black and blue.

University of Minnesota forward Dan Coleman, guard Lawrence McKenzie
and center Spencer Tollackson, Winona State guard Jonte Flowers and
forward John Smith, and Minnesota State University-Mankato center Atila
Santos went through NBA drills Minnesota’s brass.

"You’re looking for a guy that maybe can come in and fill out a roster
in the summer league," said Wolves VP of Basketball Operations Kevin
McHale. "Can you give him some exposure, can you really recommend him
to a team overseas or a D-League (affiliate). Can you get their career
going?

"These kids seem to have a pretty good idea of who they are and what they can do."

Flowers, a 6-foot-5 All-American guard from Cottage
Grove, Wis., made the biggest impression on Wolves vice president of
basketball operations Kevin McHale.

"I liked the Flowers kid when he played down at
Portsmouth (Invitational in Virginia)," McHale said. "He’s really a
Division I athlete. There’s no question."
