Returning home from a west coast trip the Badgers Women's basketball team regained their offensive rhythm and with it regained a winning record as they took down Evansville 73-55 at the Kohl Center to improve to 3-2 on the young season.
Wisconsin was down early at 3-2 with just over a minute gone in the 1st half, however that would be the only wake up call this team needed as they retook the lead on a pair of Morgan Paige free-throws and it started a 9-0 run that gave the Badgers an 11-3 lead that would hold up and then some. After that one point lead evaporated the Aces never led again in the contest.
The Badgers winning effort was powered by Paige's team high 19 points. She led a trio of ladies in double figures that included 13 points from Tiera Stephens and 11 points from Taylor Wurtz. Wisconsin shot 43.9% from the floor on the day and outrebounded the visiting Aces 40-31 in the victory.
Jacki Gulzynski hit a three pointer as time expired to end the first half to put Wisconsin up by 11 entering intermission at 39-28 and the Badgers used a good defensive effort to stifle any chance of an Evansville comeback in the 2nd half allowing just 27 points to the Aces in the 2nd frame of the day.
Wisconsin's defensive effort was stellar all the way around as they forced 16 turnovers, blocked 5 shots and had 8 steals in the win.
Up next for the ladies is their game in the Big Ten/ACC Challenge against Virginia Tech on Wednesday.
