It may have taken longer than they would have hoped, but the UW women's hockey team secured their first win in the new La Bahn Arena with a 2-1 victory over New Hampshire Friday night.
The Badgers didn't waste any time getting on the board as Karley Sylvester found the back of the net just under three minutes into the game.
That score would hold until Brianna Decker scored with under two minutes remaining in the second period to give the Badgers a 2-0 advantage heading into the final intermission.
The Wildcats cut the lead in half when Kristina Lavoie scored midway through the third period, but Wisconsin netminder Alex Rigsby kept New Hampshire at bay, as she tallied eight of her 29 saves in the final 20 minutes.
With the victory, the Badgers snap a four-game winless streak. Wisconsin moves to 4-3-2 overall.
The Badgers and Wildcats will take a day off before resuming the series Sunday afternoon. Faceoff is set for 2 p.m.
