Women’s Hockey Clinches WCHA Title with 6-2 Win Over St. Cloud State

One of the most successful programs in Women’s College Hockey history is at it again as they used a 6-2Wisconsin Womens Hockey victory over St. Cloud State at the National Hockey Center to clinch their 4th WCHA Championship.  Starring in the win was senior Hilary Knight who had a hand in all 6 of the Badger goals (1 goal and 5 assists).  It also capped off another weekend sweep for the Badgers who are on an 8 game winning streak currently.

With two games left in the season Wisconsin has 69 points in the WCHA and is six points clear of second place Minnesota.  The results of this weekend means that the Badgers can do no worse than share the conference title with the Gophers.  However, one win or a Gopher loss next weekend and the Badgers will own the title outright.

The Badgers got another great performance from star goalie Alex Rigsby who made 24 saves and improves her and Wisconsin’s overall record to 28-2-2 on the season.

Wisconsin can clinch the title with a win on Friday afternoon against Ohio State at 2pmCT.  The Buckeyes come in to the season ending series on 38 points with a 12-13-1 record and are in 5th place in the WCHA standings.

Knowing the Badgers will finish no worse than tied for the title the Badgers will host a best of 3 series on Feb. 24-26 at the Kohl Center with tickets for that series going on sale Monday.  So get your wallets out and catch the best program at Wisconsin as they drive for another National Title in 2012.
