Wondo Makes A Big Statement in US Friendly

Chris Wondolowski made a bold statement to capture a spot on the 2014 World Cup roster with his performance against South Korea in Carson, California at the StubHub Center. Although the match was a friendly, it was one of the last chances that most of the MLS players had to make a positive impression on coach Jurgen Klinsmann.

Wondo got the party started early by drilling in the opening goal in the third minute. A cross from Graham Zusi, was intended for Brad Davis who slid in for the shot. The attempt ricochet off the goalkeeper and Wondo was there to put it in.

In the 60th minute Wondo was found putting in another goal in front of the sold out home crowd. Graham Zusi had the ball after a throw in and crossed it in the box. It led to a powerful one timer off of Wondo’s right boot to boost the US lead to two.

The final stood to be 2-0 with both goals supplied by the Earthquakes superstar. Coach Klinsmann also commented on his performance saying, “He’s a pure finisher. It’s a reward for his commitment, his attitude.” Hopefully that means that the odds are in Wondo’s favor to get a spot on the plane to Brazil for the World Cup.

One thing is for sure; Chris Wondolowski knows how to score goals. Whether it’s being at the right place at the right time, or using his power to get the ball past the keeper, he’s always hungry for goals. That’s something that the US team can use in Brazil as they prepare for their journey to the Cup.
