A late shorthanded goal by Brad Marchand was the difference as Canada defeated a resilient Team Europe 2-1 to win the 2016 World Cup of Hockey championship.
Team Canada payed most of the game trailing 1-0 until a late surge and goals from Patrice Bergeron on the power play with under three minutes left and Marchand’s shorthanded game winner with 43 seconds remaining.
Zdeno Chara scored Europe’s lone goal in the first period.
Sidney Crosby was named the Most Valuable Player.
