“It was a solid practice,” Wulff said. “It was by no means a poor practice. Just a little up and down emotionally, but overall, it was a practice we can grow from.”
Growth is good. But solid? I don’t know, maybe a little disappointing considering the “slogginess” of Tuesday? But they might still be in the mid-practice session fog more than anything else. And to be fair, they did finish the practice strong with some nice plays from the offense towards the end. But the dropped passes still sound like an issue, as the WR’s saw four more passes hit the turf in the first 11-on-11 session. It did get better later in practice with the hands guys but it is just kind of out there, these drops. Why is it happening? Per Gino Simone:
“I think as a group, (wide receivers coach Mike Levenseller) has done a few things to try and improve our hands, and through that process, we’ve been going through some struggles,” Simone said. “But I think if you look at us from where we started to where we’re at now, we’re making progress.” The progress was evident when senior receiver Daniel Blackledge dove out and extended his arms to snag a long touchdown pass from sophomore quarterback Jeff Tuel.
Moving on….
- Grippi’s recap has a ton of quick-hit info, dot-dot-dot style, but leads off with a highlight of the really nice depth developing at tight end. Skylar Stormo and Andrei Lintz have really improved, Stormo in particular, but mix in the four-star signee Aaron Dunn this fall and who knows what things could look like in ’10. Nice to hear about Stormo putting on 10 lbs of muscle since last year. Now 6-5, 257, size and strength certainly won’t be an issue with the big youngster.
Another highlight of Grippi’s recap? The spring game COULD be on the TV! Depending on where you live, that is:
Also, if you can’t make it down to Pullman on April 24 to see the final scrimmage of spring, you might be able to see it on TV. SWX, KHQ’s sports and weather channel, will broadcast the game live to viewers in the Spokane area. Whether you can get the channel where you live is something you’ll have to figure out.
- Meanwhile, WSUCougars.com posted a quick video interview with Wulff following Thursday’s practice. Check it out:

- Cougfan’s recap hits on some big plays on D, specifically Brandon Rankin and Mike Ledgerwood with some big plays. The article is premium but you can check it out here.
- Finally, the “scary” recruiting rumor. Yesterday a rumor was posted on Cougfan’s message boards that none other than Bishop Sankey, the four-star running back verbal commit for WSU, had de-committed from the Cougs. Where the rumor actually started, who knows, and some blame a certain writer for a pro-UW scout.com site. But Cougfan did their diligence, tracked down Sankey, and reported that he is STILL committed to WSU. PHEW….for now anyway. Sankey did confirm that he was thinking of taking trips to other schools on his list, but no, for now he is still committed to WSU.
It’s funny, but LucasCoug and I discussed Sankey just a couple of days ago, and at the time we both agreed that this thing feels like we have a LOOOOONNNGGG way to go before the recruitment is signed, sealed and delivered (well obviously he can’t actually sign on the dotted line until February next year, but still!). There are going to be rumors and such for a player of his caliber, one of the top five-or-ten players in the state of Washington for the 2010 recruiting class. Add in that Steve Broussard, the WSU coach who bonded with the Sankey family during the early stages of recruitment, is no longer with WSU? Just dig in and be ready, for this is only the first of probably many stories like this that will float around.
All for now. GO COUGS!
