WSU Weekly Show Highlights, Plus More

Happy Apple Cup Thursday Cougs!  Wow, Thursday already?  Where does the time go? As you can see, the snow removal has been going on at Martin Stadium, and the field looks pretty good.  Cold, but pretty good overall.

Normally in this space we would roll with a radio show recap, but unfortunately it didn’t happen last night.  As has been the case in the past, the Everett f’ing Silvertips played a hockey game, therefore bumping Paul Wulff’s fireside chat with Cougar Nation.  I don’t get any other stations that actually carry the show, and there is still no online stream available.  SO, we’re S.O.L.

But we won’t leave you empty handed.  Last night the Cougar All Access show ran on FSN, and yes, we ripped off some highlights for you.  Some pretty good ones too, including the best of the season from the sideline, as well as some vintage Apple Cup footage.  Enjoy the video, plus some other stuff going on, after the read more!

Moving on, there’s a lot of audio to digest from a Coug point of view.  Jeff Tuel talked to Ian Furness on KJR yesterday, and you can listen in here.  On Tuesday, Nolan Washingon joined Ian, you can get that here, and Jim Walden hopped on as well.  Phew.

But that’s just the start in this information-overload week.  You’ll want to listen to KJR on Thursday, during the Ian Furness show from 1-3 pm.  Why?  Because SIX former WSU QB’s are going to join the show, that’s why!  Per Cougfan:

Ian Furness of Sports Radio 950 KJR in Seattle has lined up the Mount Rushmore of Cougar quarterbacks for his show Thursday that runs from 1-3 p.m.

Ian will be joined in the studio for the duration by Jason Gesser and CF.C columnist Ryan Leaf, and then will welcome, in no particular order, Drew Bledsoe, Jack Thompson, Alex Brink and Mark Rypien. This is without question going to be the greatest two hours of radio since Orson Welles fired up War of the Worlds back in the ’30s.

Later in the day, from 4 to 6 p.m., Leaf will be guest co-hosting on KIRO-AM (710 ESPN) with the Go 2 Guy Jim Moore and Paul Silvi.

Should be interesting to say the least!

Finally, a reader who frequents comments around here by the name of “PTownCoug” was at a gathering last night with Bill Moos.  Here’s what he had to say, in case you missed it:

Although no one asked him directly, it was pretty clear to the 50 or so of us gathered that PW is staying.

He emphasized the OSU was a huge win and compared it to Wazzu’s beating of Stanford when he was playing for a 1-10 team as the time when the program turned the corner.

Additionally, he discussed facilities. Football only facility is one of his major agenda items in addition to the stadium expansion. Also, he discussed the Seattle game and noted that the most we netted at the Seattle game was our 1st yr against Nevada where we netted approx $333k. He is expecting us to net against OSU $1.9 million.

He wants big time opponents coming to play at WSU and is figuring out how to get that done.

Thanks PTown.  You know, there has been a lot of similar stories out there, where in recent weeks that the chatter around WSU is that it sounds like Wulff is staying.  But the question is, where do the ESPN’s of the world get their information, that WSU has been calling around and that the WSU job is “very likely” going to be open (check it out in ESPN insider for more).

Maybe it is a situation where yeah, OK, Moos picked up the phone and put out a feeler or two on a couple of guys.  But maybe that’s as far as it went, and that chatter was picked up and interpreted to mean that WSU will likely make a change?  Or maybe it was just an AD doing his job, which is to always try and attempt to improve the program in any possible manner, including the idea of a new coach?  Whatever the case, you have to believe that someone is telling these reporters something.  I guess we’ll find out soon enough, and Moos will let us all know after the season, just like he has said all along.

Whatever happens, I do have a request for Mr. Moos.  PLEASE DON’T DO THIS AGAIN!  If you keep coach Wulff, as it sounds promising based on what people have heard out there lately, don’t put the fan base through this speculation again next year!  I say if you do decide he’s your guy, guarantee the fifth year immediately, or better yet, tack on a couple of more years with an extension, and let everyone know that things are in place and stable for the next several years.  This we’ll-evaluate-after-the-year stuff and the silence that goes along with it just leaves too much open to interpretation.  Human nature will tend to look at said silence as not being good, and then the rumors can get out of control.  But if the decision is to keep Wulff, again, please don’t do this again.

All for now.  GO COUGS!
