Arlington-based professional MMA promotion Xtreme Knockout (XKO) has long been synonymous with the MMA in North Texas. A plethora of high-octane pro shows have created a large and loyal fan base that has seen the promotion rise from humble venues to the sparkling new Gas Monkey Live concert hall in Dallas. Never content to simply rest on their laurels, this past Saturday night XKO ushered in a new initiative: fostering local MMA talent from the amateur ranks.
On Saturday night, Xtreme Knockout Amateur Series 1 took place at the familiar confines of the XKO Arena in Arlington. The card featured 10 amateur MMA bouts with two amateur Muay Thai fights on the docket. In fact, history was made as XKO Amateur Series would feature Texas’ first ever Muay Thai fights to be held in a cage. Yes, it was just as awesome as it reads.
In the end, the night featured some of North Texas’ young and up and coming prospects and the near sell out crowd backed up the notion that if you bring good fights, the fans will show up.
RESULTS
Main Event (Muay Thai)
Eric Flores defeated Brandon Baca via unanimous decision. Scores were 30-27 on all three cards.
Josh Altum defeated Cody Freeman via first round knee bar submission. The time of the tap came at 1:21.
Joshua Hunter defeated Jay Khamthong via 2nd round TKO. The time of the stoppage was 2:23.
Elijah Wilson defeated Michael Welsh Jr. via second round arm triangle.
Michael Davis defeated Chase Jonson via unanimous decision.
Kyle Coronado defeated Hank Corzine via split decision.
Jacob Merideth defeated Jim Marsh via second round TKO.
Christopher Williams defeated Phillip Terrell via unanimous decision in a Muay Thai fight.
Trenton Lambert vs. Jacob Penn was declared a no-contest due to an illegal reinforced knee thrown by Lambert in the opening round that left Penn unable to compete.
Joey Gonzales defeated Miguel Hernandez via unanimous decision.
