Staten Island is about to get a lot sexier.
Friday, the Class-A affiliate of the New York Yankees are looking to set a record… the world’s largest gathering of people wearing fake mustaches. And the folks from the Guinness Book of World Records will even be on hand to certify the attempt as legitimate.
“We’ll give you a fake mustache and probably somewhere in the third inning we’ll ask everybody to put them on,” said team CEO Steve Violetta. “We have to keep them on for five minutes at that point to make it official, and we’ll have people recording the world record.”
And how confident is Violetta that fans of the baby Bombers will set the record during the season opener against the Brooklyn Cyclones? Very. Turns out the record is only around 2700 and the Richmond County Bank Ballpark can fit just north of 7100 patrons.
Oh…can’t get tickets to the game (yup, they’re sold out), don’t fret. Singer Tiffany will be hitting St. George next Thursday. Sadly, the only record set that night is how far a star can fall.
