The Yankees took Game 1 of the double header today after getting to Franklin Morales early and often. The Red Sox starter gave up four runs in the first inning including homers by Swisher and Jones. Morales then settled down for two innings but was done in by the long balls again in the fourth. Jones hit his second homer of the game and Nix followed it up with a tater of his own.
The Red Sox offense did not dig out of the hole and was held to just one run in the game. David Ortiz, Adrian Gonzalez and Mike Aviles were the only opening day starters that were in the game for the Sox.
If you are looking for a silver lining, Gonzalez extended his hitting streak to 16 games and Germano pitched 5 2/3 innings of shutout relief for Boston.
