Yanks hit 6 HRs, Sox still WIN!

Josh Beckett took the mound tonight in Yankee Stadium….a place that has not been all that nice to him lately.  Josh hoped to put all that behind him with a solid start.  The Sox offense had Josh Beckett’s back and early.  In the 2nd inning, Papi and Lowell got on base and Jed Lowrie hit a HR to knock them in.  Then in the 4th inning, the Sox took advantage of Andy Pettitte not being his normal self and scored 4 more runs.  Andy Pettitte was out of the game and heading for the showers.  Bill Hall continued the offense with a 3 run homer in the 5th for the Sox to have a 10-1 lead.

Josh started off well….allowing only one run (solo HR to Curtis Granderson) in his first 5 innings.  Josh looked like the Josh Beckett we know and love.  However, Beckett gave up back to back HRs in the 6th to Teixeira and ARod….followed by giving up another HR to Nick Swisher in the 6th.  Beckett left the game after pitching 6.2 innings, however with a 10-5 lead.  Scott Atchison was in to get the final out…unfortunately, he walked Teixeira and gave up a HR to ARod before getting that 3rd out.  The Sox were clinging to a 10-7 lead.  Bard came in and pitched the 8th inning….allowing one hit and no runs.  And then Papelbon was on for the 9th.  He K’ed Jeter, got Swisher to fly out to center, then gave up a HR to Mark Teixeira (his first hit off Pap ever) and then finally for Granderson to strike out for the save and the win.

Josh Beckett wins.  Papelbon gets the save.  Just by the skin of our teeth.  Tis a win though….and I’ll take it.  The Yanks hit 6 HRs and we win.

Mike Lowell Injury Report:  Mike Lowell was hit by a ball in the 3rd from Curtis Granderson that took a horrible hop and ended up hitting Mike right in the face….looked like right above his eye.  It was pretty scary for a few minutes as Beckett and the trainers stood over him.  Mike got up…told everyone he was fine and finished the inning.  It was obvious Granderson felt horrible.  Mike was replaced by Lars Anderson after the inning.  I am happy to report that the Sox announced that Mike was replaced for precautionary reasons and that there is no worry of a concussion.  It’ll be interesting to see tomorrow though…what kind of shiner he might or might not be rocking.  So glad Mikey seems to be safe and healthy…he’s always been one of my favorites.
