After a crazy day of trades (the most deadline deals since 1995), sometimes it’s hard to get all your facts straight.
One player that wasn’t traded, but definitely (maybe?) was on the move… Yasiel Puig.
After it was reported that the Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder was not on the team flight to Denver, the rumors started swirling. Was the 25-year-old indeed being dealt? Was he being sent to the minors? Something else?!?
According to Ken Rosenthal, whatever it was, Puig was pissed and “stormed off”. Except that’s not what happened at all.
Turns out, dude wasn’t even at the stadium. And the MLB writer was quick to correct his mistake.
I am adjusting my story to reflect Adam Katz’s statement. If Puig was not at the park, he obviously could not have stormed off.

To those upset with first version of Puig story: I’m with you. I take great pride in accuracy. It infuriates me that a key detail was wrong.

The information came from sources, but that’s not an excuse. It’s my job to check everything thoroughly.

The only solution in a situation like this is to apologize, correct the mistake and learn from it. And that’s what I’m doing.

Error corrected or not, this is the kind of thing that could damage a guy’s reputation. Thankfully, Puig is a kind soul.
@ken_rosenthal don't worry bro, we all make mistakes #puigyourfriend #seeyousoon

@YasielPuig I’m still sorry, Yasiel. Shouldn’t have happened.

Hold on…did Puig and Rosenthal just share a moment? Adorable.
