Yes, Hockey Does Exist Outside of Buffalo and Ottawa

Well it seems as if the last few posts have paid no attention to anything but those two teams (you know who you are) who are currently engaged in something called the Eastern Conference Finals. I don’t know, I’ve never heard of it. Point is, there are actually other games going on and I don’t want to be accused of neglect.

Game Four of the Western Finals kicks off in about 30 minutes, and hopefully it will have some pretty solid men on ice action. The big news, if you haven’t heard by now, is that Anaheim’s Chris Pronger has been suspended for the game thanks to this hit he and teammate Rob Niedermayer put on Tomas Holmstrom in Game Three.

I’m going to try and scrape some things together to show those of you in Detroit and Anaheim that I do care, and there is isn’t any east coast bias.

By the way, if you look to your right you’ll see what happens when you Google images of Steve Yzerman. It’s so odd I had to post it.

Yzerman is a Detroit lifer, and his name has been thrown around a bit lately as a likely candiate for some GM jobs. He’s had success as the GM of the Canadian hockey team, but I’m going to have to take a ‘believe it when I see it’ approach to this story. In an interview with the Globe and Mail, he sounds pretty content about where he is right now.

Whatever you do, just don’t Google images of Stevie Y.

Below, there’s a pretty sweet video of Stevie Y’s top ten goals of all time. Some of them are just ridiculous, like #9. Standing below the right face off circle, the Captain goes top shelf, near post on Patrick Roy. I still haven’t figured out how he did it, but he beats Roy right over the right shoulder. I don’t want to spoil the fun, so I’ll let the video do the rest of the talking. Just a heads up, Blues fans might want to skip this.

Don’t worry, I didn’t forget about the Ducks fans out there. Here’s a video from last March, where the Ducks came back from a 3-0 deficit to tie 4-4 and then win the game with a penalty shot in OT against the Avs. Yea, I know it’s not the most entertaining video. It’s the best I could do. I promise I’ll do better next time.

So everything is cool with those of you out west now, right? Right?

Tomorrow I’ll have some entertaining things for the other 86.666666 percent of us that don’t have any vested interest in the conference finals.
