The Gamecocks are already set to be without one starter in their first two games –left offensive tackle Jamon Meredith of Simpsonville. The NCAA mandated Meredith miss the first two games when it granted him a redshirt year for 2004 after he played three plays against Vanderbilt. Spurrier also said redshirt freshman quarterback Stephen Garcia may miss a few practices this spring because of missed classes. Garcia is expected to vie with Chris Smelley for the starting job when spring drills begin March 19.
