“There’s nothing that cleanses your soul like getting the hell kicked out of you.” ~Woody Hayes
Let’s do a little soul cleansing, shall we? As you can guess, most of the things we wanted to see did not happen. But, in an attempt to put this behind us, here’s our recap:
Jeff
- Another Win at Camp Randall
- Under 60 for Clay
- Three offensive TDs
Umm… no, no, and no. The last is the most frustrating for me, to be honest- it feels as if we got Tresselballed by the Badgers (run the ball, eat the clock, no mistakes) and by our own team (sure field goals rather than risky touchdowns in the red zone).
Eric
- Continued competent, solid passing from Pryor
- Three passes to Jake Stoneburner
- Elimination of the Wisky ground attack
- A bone crushing victory
Jay
- Ditto on Eric’s last point
Well, interestingly enough, Wisconsin was the first team to gear their defense toward stopping TP’s arm, and they did pretty well. If it weren’t for the courage of the fearless Dane, the numbers would be a lot worse. Oh, can someone move Devier’s locker further away from Taurian’s? ‘kay thx…
As for the Wisconsin ground game… yeah…
Joe
- Me not getting hurt at the game
- No 100 yard rusher for Wisconsin
- Win the turnover battle
- Kickoff or punt return for a TD
Success! Joe returned alive, and had positive things to say about the experience (“other than that, how was the play Mrs. Lincoln?”). You should have been more specific about the kick return for a TD, champ. We tied the turnover battle; obviously we needed more.
Mali
- No 100 Yard Badger
- 100 Yard Buckeye
- Bryant Blowup
- Jump Around
- #1 should play like #1
- No False Starts
Well, we already talked about the road graders that Wisconsin used against the Buckeyes, so that’s a “no”. We just missed having our own 100 yard game- Boom was 9 yards shy of the century mark. I still contend that if we would have started out the game playing Ohio State football, we’d be having a lot less sad panda around here. Christian Bryant didn’t play much, and the Buckeyes certainly didn’t play like #1.
Regarding “jump around”- I’m an idiot. I posted this elsewheres-
When they pan across the field from the blimp, you could see a lot of the Buckeyes “jumping around” and having fun. Wisconsin players? Standing on their sidelines, ready to play football.
Given what I saw on Twitter this past week, this seemed to indicate a level of immaturity and lack of focus. Is it possible to have fun in the moment? Absolutely. But behind on the scoreboard in a game that you’ve been playing poorly in (except for the third quarter… so there’s that)? I’m not sure that would be the moment to step away from business.
Although, it could just be that the Buckeyes were sensing the momentum change and were excited about pulling themselves back into the game… However, in hindsight, “be careful what you ask for” and so forth.
However, we didn’t have any false starts called against us, even when there obviously was one. Hooray. There’s a part of me, though, that feels as if the officials weren’t watching any of the offensive line play. At all.
Ah well… It doesn’t feel any better, but at least it’s out there. Catharsis, right? And now- on to the next one:
