You don’t need the NFL Network to watch the Dallas Cowboys Bucs game

Dallas cowboysFor the first time the Bucs will play the Cowboys at Night. Only the 5th meeting in Tampa for these teams; Bucs are 2-2.Judging from the comments on local Bucs sites, people are under the mistaken opinion that they wont be able to watch the Bucs/Cowboys game because they dont have the NFL Network.  By law, whenever a game is on cable, it MUST be broadcast on a local over the air affiliate. When the MNF Game was on ESPN, it was also on 10 CBS which this year acquired the rights to non networked Bucs games, such as preseason.

Most people are unaware of local laws regarding cable and TV. Did you know that the Cable companies by law MUST provide you with HD versions of your local channels? Even if you dont pay for  HD channels! Its called QAM- and all new TVs have a QAM tuner built in. Thats the “TV” on your hdtv, usually right above hdmi1 or composite or Component. If your cable goes into your box then uses an HDMI cable to your HDTV, get an inexpensive cable splitter (less than 5.00 at walmart) and two 1 foot co ax cables. unplug the cable from the box and plug into the input on the splitter. Plug one of the other cables into the other side and back to your box. Use the remaining cable on the remaining end of the splitter, and attach to the coax cable fitting on the back of your HDTV. Go into your TV’s settings and look for channel search. Let it run, and poof! You have free HDTV of your local channels.

Now back to the Bucs; They may need a little help here and there, a Nationally televised Monday Night Football game here, a nationally televised Sunday Night Game against America’s Team there, but the Tampa Bay Buccaneers have sold out 2 games this year, and while that may not seem like much, that is two games more than they sold out last season. Including the Bucs home game in London, 11 of the 16 regular season games will be on TV this year, up from only 8 last season.

That could be a sign the Bucs are starting to get fans back into their game. And its not without good reason. Despite their recent losses, the team does play an exciting brand of football with multiple come back wins in the 4th quarter, and people pay money to see Touchdowns, not guys preventing touchdowns. The Bucs have Josh Freeman, LeGarrette Blount, and some young wide receivers who make this brand of football more exciting in Tampa Bay than its been in a long time.

The Dallas Cowboys game will be televised as part of the NFL Networks Thursday Night telecasts, but it will be a special Sunday Edition. However, just because its on the NFL Network, the game must, by law, be available on a local over the air channel too.

At this time I’m not sure which channel it will be on, but I would guess 10 CBS as they have the preseason rights and it was they who broadcast the MNF game against Indianapolis. You do not need to have the NFL network to be able to watch this game. Currently, only bright house does not give access to the NFL network.
