Oh my, this is embarrassing. The All-Star Game is still a month away but it appears the Angels, the hosts of the Mid-Summer Classic, are going to draw a big fat goose egg when it comes to All-Star balloting. Not a single Halo is even close to be elected into the starting line-up for the 2010 All-Star Game meaning they will have to leave their All-Star fate up to the ever-so-flawed reserve selection process. We know the Angels are guaranteed to get at least one player on the team, but who should it be?
You Make the Call! Who should represent the Angels at the 2010 All-Star Game in Anaheim?
A) Jered Weaver. Probably the leader in the clubhouse to be the Angel rep, Weaver has become an ace this season and his current status as the AL strikeout leader has him in position to be a dark horse candidate to get the starting nod in the game.
B) Ervin Santana. Thanks to a recent surge that his stats looking similar to Weaver’s, Ervin could be a late entry into the All-Star sweepstakes. He’ll have to keep it together for the next few weeks though if he wants to make the squad.
C) Torii Hunter. His stats hardly scream All-Star, but with the game being in Anaheim why not select the player Angel fans love the most?
D) Kendry Morales… OOPS! Let’s try again. Mike Napoli. Naps is a longshot, but his recent power surge combined with the general dearth off All-Star caliber catchers could earn him the third catcher’s spot on the roster, especially since Scioscia won’t be around to denigrate his defense which won’t really matter in that game anyway.
SECRET OPTION E) Brian Fuentes. I know this sounds crazy, but stick with me here. Tito was a 2009 All-Star, and deservedly so, but his season went right down the tubes after he went unused in the actual All-Star Game. If we can get him onto this year’s team, there is no way the manager would dare use him, so maybe another snubbing will reverse the curse from last season. Right? Who’s with me? Anyone? Hello?
