By the time Jared Sullinger and DeMarcus Cousins were finished with their paint scoring, often in each other’s mug, the Celtics had their third straight win, 99-89, over a hot Kings team last night at the Garden.

Sully more than held his own against DeMarcus Cousins last night. He put the team on his back, which is doing fine by the way haters, and beasted his way to 31 points and 16 rebounds. It was the first such performance by a Celtic since 2007, and only the 5th since 1989. Jared’s beasting was not limited to the paint either. His perimeter game is improving night by night, and he will only become that more dangerous.
“What makes Jared unique is he’s a big, strong guy that can score over bigger guys in the post,” Stevens said. “But then, that’s why it’s so critical, and we’ve talked about it, that he continues to work and refine his perimeter game, which he’s obviously doing well with. But it’s not where it will be someday.
Sullinger gives up nearly 4 inches to Cousins size wise. But Jared used his strength and sheer will to carve out space under the basket. And, as mentioned before, he got himself open from outside and fared well with his jumpers too. Sully is proving more & more every night why Danny Ainge’s roll of the dice on draft night was definitely a good gamble. Stevens believes the “sky’s the limit”.
“But the bottom line is, as he continues to improve, as he continues to get more games underneath his belt, as he continues to get further away from the (back) surgery and gets another summer of work and all of those things, I just think that the sky’s the limit. He’s playing at a nice level, there’s no question about it, but I really believe that he can be a consistent double-double guy.”
