Your morning cup o’ Kings: Tyreke Evans

Today we have an abbreviated, late edition of cup o’ Kings.  There are a ton of clips of Tyreke Evans as both a college and professional player floating around the world of Youtube. But if you search hard enough, you can find some incredible footage of Tyreke Evans as a teenage phenom.

After a spectacular first season with the Kings, which included such feats as winning the NBA’s Rookie of the Year Award and finishing with averages of more than 20 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists per game, Evans seemed primed to take a big leap as a sophomore.  Unfortunately, a nasty case of plantar fasciitis really slowed the former Memphis star, forcing him to miss 25 games and limiting his mobility throughout the season.

Year three is a big season for Tyreke. The Kings have already added John Salmons and Jimmer Fredette in an attempt to better space the floor and cause more mismatch situations for Evans. If he can stay healthy, continue to improve his perimeter game and build on-court chemistry with DeMarcus Cousins, both the Kings and Tyreke Evans are primed for a big leap in 2011-12.

More after the jump…

The first clip goes back to 2006 and a showdown between two exceptional John Calipari disciples. Evans versus Derek Rose, high school style. Tyreke is hoping to capture the same lighting in a bottle as Rose did in his third season when he elevated his game exponentially, earning his first MVP award as a member of the Bulls. Year number three seems to be the magical moment for many young NBA players. While we don’t expect an MVP award for Evans, there is hope that Evans can build on his impressive rookie season and forget about that injury plagued sophomore year.

This second clip shows you the speed and quickness of a young Tyreke that was sorely missing this past season with the Kings.
