Your Morning Dump… Kevin Garnett deserves a pat on the back

Every morning, we compile the links of the day and dump them here… highlighting the big storyline. Because there's nothing quite as satisfying as a good morning dump.

* With his shot not falling early on, Kevin Garnett seemed to take himself out of attack mode. Yet, with the game hanging in the balance, the ball went to Garnett isolated on the blocks and he got a turnaround jumper to rattle in with 1:04 to play. That's a big hoop in a big spot for pass-first KG. Brandon Bass also had a pair of clutch jumpers late in the fourth quarter, helping to keep the hard-charging Cavaliers at arm's length. Bass finished 6-of-9 shooting for 13 points, while adding a team-high six rebounds over 28:58.

The media isn't giving Kevin Garnett enough credit for his game-saving turnaround jumper over Anderson Varejao last night.

Sure, the big takeaway from the game is the fact the Celtics blew a 22 point lead. But if Garnett misses that shot, we'd be feeling much worse.

We're quick to criticize KG when he misses or doesn't take the shot. How about some praise when he makes it, and does so over one tough defender?

As one moron once said…. all the negativity that's in this town sucks. Now excuse me while I head outside and skip down the street to this song.

On Page 2, Doc has no qualms with Pierce's playing time comment.

Yesterday, Pierce explained the situation by saying, “I was just frustrated.”

Rivers let it go, as well. He said of his thinking at the time, “We’re up 11 or 12 and he had already played 33 or 34 minutes (actually 31). If Paul was 25, he probably would have been in. But he knows what I’m going to do, and he likes it most of the time.

“When you lose, no one likes it. So I don’t think it’s a big deal. I don’t think it’s something I need to have a conversation about.”

Rivers added before last night’s 93-90 win over the Cavs, “We haven’t said one word about it. . . . It’s so silly. I mean, he was frustrated after the game. He said a word. It probably won’t be the last time, and nobody makes a big deal of it.”

Herald – Truth is, Doc Rivers got over spat

Pierce entered the 4th quarter last night at the 9:27 mark. He played the rest of the game.

Case closed.
